Adnan Syed, Finally Free

Image
After a long 22 years in prison, Adnan Syed finally walks free. I want to start this off by saying that, because it is exactly what I hoped would happen. The first time I ever heard The Alibi was around 2018 for an assignment in school and I instantly had the feeling that there was SO much more to this story than the witnesses were letting up. I questioned so many options; was this racially motivated? Was Jay covering up his own murder by blaming a friend? So many questions left unanswered, but through it all I always had the feeling that Adnan was an innocent man. His demeaner was so calm but in the way that it felt like he gave up and knew he was never going to be released.   Upon further research at the time (2018) it was clear that Adnan had no chance of being a free man, every thing was so up in the air that no one really knew what to believe. I definitely convinced myself of his innocence, considering all of the stories being provided were not matching up with the evidence t...

Creativity or copyright? The art of song remixing

Creativity or Copyright? The Art of Song Remixing   Speaking from experience, most songs you listen to these days stem from another song. Realistically, there are only so many notes that can be thrown together and the amount of music distributed these days is astounding. Statistically in 2019, 15-20% of songs created used a sample. I find the creative structure very intriguing as well as incredibly enjoyable.    To get on with it, the song I am speculating is Money Trees by Kendrick Lamar . The song begins almost eerie but then the high hats come in and it becomes an unforgettable beat. I only recently discovered that the song samples the same background as Silver Soul by Beach House . The main characteristic that changes the song is...

Why the English class you might dread is so important English is to date the most widely spoken and written language in the world, with approximately 4.8% of the population speaking it. Now, I know that percentage may not seem like much, but it tallies to about 1.35 billion people. Living here in Canada, you will almost never hear any other language being spoken, with the exception of French. It goes to show how oriented we already are in the language since birth and how important it is to be knowledgeable in the language, considering anything else you are learning is based in the language; from school, to work, to watching movies, to reading books. That goes to ask the big question; should grade 12 University-level English be a requirement for entry to all University programs? I'm here to explain why I think anyone who plans to go to University should have those credentials.  For starters, I totally understand if English is one of your least favourite classes, I get it. I say that...
